Cornabracken Childcare at Holy Family P.S opened in September 2012 and is continuing to grow and develop. The management and staff at Cornabracken Childcare at Holy Family P.S, Omagh, aim to provide high quality, child centred and affordable childcare to all out clients. We seek to nurture, support and promote our children’s personal, social emotional and intellectual development in a safe, secure and stimulating environment.
Our staff are selected very carefully, not only for their qualifications and experience but also for their love of children. We understand that continuity of care for the children is paramount and for that reason we are totally committed to promoting staff loyalty. The majority of our staff have at least a level 3 qualification in childcare or are in the process of obtaining this qualification. Staff are also provided with regular opportunities to conduct ongoing training on-site and through various organisations, to ensure that staff are continually developing themselves. Our staff have all been vetted by the Department of Health and Social Services through AccessNI and submits at least 2 references prior to commencing work in our childcare setting.
Our staff to child ratios are guided by the Health and Social Care Trust regulations for nursery age children and are as follows:
A team of qualified and experienced members of staff care for each group of children and there is a minimum of two staff in each room at all times. The Minimum Standards require the person in charge of a nursery to have an appropriate level 3 qualification or qualified teacher status that specialise in the early years. Angela Mc Guire (manager at Cornabracken @ Holy Family Childcare) currently holds a BA (Hons) degree in Early Childhood Studies (Level 5), Paula Carlin has a HND in Early Childhood Studies and the proprietor, Melanie O’Kane is a qualified teacher. In addition, at least half of the remaining staff must hold an appropriate level 2 qualification. Our policy is to exceed statutory requirements, encouraging staff to develop their qualifications and to attend courses in areas such as special needs, equal opportunities and behaviour management on a regular basis. The majority of our staff team hold at least a Level 3 qualification in Childcare/Early Years.
